NEUROHUMANITIES RESEARCH CENTRE TLALPAN V COLOQUIO:
NEUROHUMANIDADES. MEXICO DEL 21 AL 25 DE SEPTIEMBRE 2010
The Editor of SALUD MENTAL, a leading psychiatric journal in Latin America will share his thoughts on DANTE ALIGHIERI. The sexual, romantic and attachment brain circuits being imaged with electromagnetic and nuclear tomographs will be discussed by the immediate past President of the WORLD ASSOCIATION FOR SEXUAL HEALTH. NEURONOVELS and NEURONARRATIVES, VISUAL NEUROAESTHETICS and NEUROMYTHOLOGY presentations will focus on NEUROBEAUTY. The risks implicit in looking at another “in the eye” will be analyzed from the point of view of the phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty. Following the trend of books such as THE ORIGIN OF CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE BREAKDOWN OF THE BICAMERAL MIND; PSYCHOTROPY AND CIVILIZATION; EROS AND THANATOS: THE PSYCHOANALITIC MEANING OF HISTORY; BIOLOGY, THE SEXES AND THE COURSE OF HISTORY; THE ALPHABET AND THE GODDESS and ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE, we will analize the new book by MCGILCHRIST: THE MASTER AND HIS EMISSARY: THE DIVIDED BRAIN AND THE MAKING OF THE WESTERN WORLD. In it, a dual mode of NEURODIGITAL/NEUROANALOG ATTENTION is related to historical processes in the ancient world, in the renaissance , in romanticism, in modernism and in postmodernism. Presentations on the new fields of NEUROHISTORY and NEUROCULTURAL STUDIES will focus on language. We will also travel from quantum phenomena in tubulin and neuronal microtubules to speculations on the origins of consciousness. This will take place at the INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE PSIQUIATRIA, one of the NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, the 21 of September of 2010.
The relationship between science, culture and faith will be presented by the Dean of Theology of UNIVERSIDAD IBEROAMERICANA-SANTA FE. We will meditate on the relationships between food and theology, from the point of view of Christians and of Huichols; and discuss the links proposed by Stuart Kauffman between the sacred and complexity sciences, of which he is a leading biotheoretician. A psychoanalyst wil resonate the topics of truth and disgust. The field of NEUROCINEMATICS will discuss brain responses to canonical cinematography (Hitchcock) and a to a “western spaghetti” movie (Leone). Art and psychotherapy, art and hypnosis and NEUROEDUCATION will complete the activities that will take place at UNIVERSIDAD IBEROAMERICANA-PUEBLA, the 22 of September of 2010.
In the future, most education will be knowledgeable of its relations with brain/mind. Our NEUROEDUCATION group will discuss differences in brain architecture between girls and boys, neural basis of metaphors and narratives and brain imaging studies on visual art perception: the 25 of September of 2010 in KURUWI-PEDREGAL, a pioneer school in experimental methods of education that is reporting spontaneous awareness of the classical values of the GOOD, the BEAUTIFUL and the TRUE in young children.
The NEUROHUMANITIES RESEARCH CENTRES thank this year´s participants for this vibrant meeting of NEUROMINDS, that for a fifth consecutive year affirms the RIGHT HEMISPHERE based importance of the CANONICAL WORKS of the Humanities for mental health and for an integral development of all of human potentialities in resonance with new complexity paradigms and with advances in neuroscience. Our discussions on THE NEUROEROTIC, THE NEUROAESTHETIC AND THE NEUROSACRED this year will serve as launching pad for the planning of the VI COLOQUIO: NEUROHUMANIDADES, to be held the second week of March-2011, in UNIVERSIDAD IBEROAMERICANA-SANTA FE-MEXICO CITY, with the participation of prominent scholars from the ERASMUS MUNDUS JOINT DOCTORATE IN THE HUMANITIES:
CULTURAL STUDIES IN LITERARY INTERZONES.
